
Astete Awarded C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Honor

Rice senior tennis player Fernanda Astete has been named one of 14 recipients of the Air Force Reserve C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the year, with the recently announced honorees representing Conference USA's spring sports: baseball, golf, softball, tennis and outdoor track.
Astete was an key contributor in her first three years with the Owls, earning third team, All-CUSA honors in singles as a sophomore. She was a part of three C-USA Championship squads in her career.
She was a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and graduated with a 3.46 GPA as an Economics major.
Astete was actively involved in all of the women's tennis team's community activities this past year, participating in a number of youth tennis clinics during the 2018-19 season.
