Iademarco, Ogwumike Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

Pair of Owls honored by C-USA
DALLAS – Rice senior Nicole Iademarco and junior Erica Ogwumike have been named to the 2018-19 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team as announced by the league on Friday morning, the lone school with two representatives on the five-player team.
The Owls had two players named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the first time since Megan Elliott Morgan Mayse accomplished the feat in 2011. Ogwumike was selected to the team for the second straight season, becoming the second player (Tara Watts; 2008-09) in program history to earn C-USA All-Academic honors in consecutive seasons.
Iademarco, who holds a 3.77 GPA in grad school in Masters of Arts in Global Affairs, is averaging 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting a career-best 47.9 percent from the field and 42.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Woodlands, Texas native became Rice's all-time leader in made three-pointers earlier this season and became the 22nd member of the Owls' 1,000-point club. During league play, Iademarco ranks eighth in field goal percentage, second in three-point percentage, and sixth in three-pointers made per game.
Ogwumike, who maintains a 3.86 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology and Policy Studies, was named the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year and has backed up that accolade as the only player in C-USA to rank in the top-10 in scoring (6th-16.1 ppg), rebounding (1st-10.8 rpg), and steals (8th-1.8 spg). The Cypress, Texas native is a two-time C-USA Player of the Week this season and leads the league with 16 double-doubles. Ogwumike is currently the second-best defensive rebounding guard in the country, averaging 8.0 boards on the defensive end.
Iademarco, Ogwumike and the Owls will be in action next Thursday at 11 a.m. CT in the quarterfinals round of the C-USA Tournament in Frisco, Texas.
