Patel, Vivas de Lorenzi recognized individually
NEW ORLEANS - The Rice University women's cross country team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors, the association announced on Thursday (2/14) afternoon.
As a team, the women achieved a 3.70 cumulative GPA under head coach Jim Bevan, the 13th-highest in the nation. Teams must meet a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to be recognized.
Additionally, Rice junior Khayla Patel (3.26 GPA) and sophomore Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi (3.52 GPA) received individual accolades after meeting the 3.25 GPA requirement as well as being a Top-25 finisher at an NCAA Cross Country regional meet. Patel, a Cognitive Sciences major, placed 25th overall at the NCAA South Central Regional meet, while Vivas de Lorenzi (undeclared) qualified for the NCAA Championships finishing 10th overall with a time of 20:56 in the 10k race.
