• UAB leads the series 4-3, including wins in the last two. UAB has won three of four at Legion Field.
• UAB blanked the Owls 42-0, the first shutout of Rice in 216 games overall and 143 games at home.
• The series debuted in 2005 with a 45-26 UAB win on 10/1/05 which also served as the Owls' debut in Conference USA.
• Rice is 8-4 vs. FBS schools in Alabama (Alabama 3-0; UAB 3-3; Auburn 2-0; Troy 0-1).
• Rice's three wins in the series have come by a combined nine points and came via scores on the Owls last possession of the game, coming with 44 seconds, 3.5 seconds and on the last play of overtime.
• Chase Clement hit Jarett Dillard with a 9-yard scoring pass with 3.5 seconds left in 2006 to give Rice a 34-33 win at Rice Stadium. Rice's winning drive was aided after a Clement interception with 23 seconds left by UAB's Kris Guyton was fumbled on the return and recovered by offensive tackle Lute Barber to give the Owls new life.
• Jeremy Eddington's 22-yard touchdown run with 44 seconds left gave the Owls a 28-23 win on Senior Day in 2010.
• Luke Turner's one-yard run gave Rice a 37-34 win in overtime in 2013, setting the stage for a 17-13 win over Tulane one week later to earn a berth in the C-USA Championship game.
On this Date
In 2013, Darik Dillard duplicated his older brother Jarett's performance at Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium, scoring the winning touchdown in overtime against the Golden Hurricane to give Rice a 30-27 win.
In 2002, Rice enjoys a successful debut at Houston's new NFL stadium, defeating Louisiana Tech 37-20 at Reliant Stadium.
In 1957, Rice routed #17 Stanford 34-7 at Rice Stadium, the first of three wins over top 20 opponents at Rice Stadium (#12 Arkansas and #1 Texas A&M in consecutive weeks to open November). The Owls closed the season with consecutive 20-0 shutouts of TCU and Baylor to earn a berth in the Cotton Bowl vs. Navy.
For the Defense
Rice has held opponents to under 24 points in back to back games for the first time since the 2014 Owls did it in six consecutive games. Over those two games, they have allowed a combined 208 yards on the ground on 57 carries (3.6 average) to Baylor and LA Tech who were averaging 8.4 and 4.2 entering the games with the Owls. Over a four quarter stretch of the last half of the Baylor game and the first half vs. Tech, Rice allowed just seven points. The Owls became the first team since Texas in 2017 to hold Baylor off the scoreboard in the second half. Over the last two games, Rice has forced four fumbles and recovered two, sacked opposing quarterbacks five times, hurried them 11 times and broken up 12 passes.
Blaze in the Backfield
Linebacker Blaze Alldredge tied his career-high with 13 tackles vs. LA Tech and shared a TFL to give him eight this season (second in C-USA), seven of them in the last three games. He was credited with a career-high 4.5 vs. Texas. His game total vs. the Longhorns was one more than he recorded in his first season with the Owls in 2018 and were the most by an Owl since Zach Patt was credited with five at FIU in 2014.
Making the Most
Sixth year senior Aston Walter is making the most of the additional year of eligibility he was granted by the NCAA. He lead the Owls in rushing (293 yards) and touchdowns (5) and topped 100 yards for the first time in his career when he finished with 112 vs. LA Tech. He came into the year with no career touchdowns, but has found the end zone five times in the last four weeks. He scored his first career TD on a one-yard run against Wake Forest and then caught a pair of short scoring passes from Tom Stewart vs. Texas.
Next Up
The Owls will enjoy the first of two bye weeks in 2019 next weekend before returning to action on October 19 when they take on UTSA at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
