
Owls Advance Three to Singles Semis

Texas Tamale Invitational
Jacob Eskeland, Karol Paluch and Adam Oscislawski each advanced to the semifinal round with a pair of wins and each of Rice's doubles teams also advanced in the first day of action at the Texas Tamale Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday.
Eskeland and Paluch each advanced to the semifinals of the A Flight singles while Oscislawski advance to the semis in the B Flight.
Eskeland dispatched Toby Lentz of Nicholls State, 6-3, 6-3 and Jamie Fraser of Louisiana, 6-1, 6-3 to set up a semifinal meeting with Chih Chi Huang of Texas at noon on Saturday. Paluch dropped Nikita Larichev of Army, 6-2, 7-5 then outlasted Denver's Pedro Fernandez, 7-6(5), 7-5 to advance to a semifinal matchup with Dane Esses of Tulane .
Oscislawski needed three sets to defeat Dylan Loru of Nicholls State 7-5,3-6,6-2 and Fransisco Bendana of UIW, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. He will take on Army's Diego Huttepain in the semifinals.
Freshman AJ Valenty won his opener in the C Draw singles, 6-4,5-7,7-6(0) over Rodrigo Yoshikata of Prairie View before losing to Patrick Postinger of UTSA 6-0, 6-3 in the second round. Ashton Duke dropped his opener in the C Flight, but came back to pick up a win over over Zachary Suico of Prairie View 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Eskeland and Paluch opened play on Friday by picking up a 6-3 win over Myles Conlin and Larichev of Army will face William Mottet and Thomas Rodrigues Lopes Texas A&M Corpus Christi in one semifinal at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Duke and Valenty posted a 6-2 win over Rodrigo Yoshikata and Taqel Lewis of Prairie View will face Alejandro Quiros and Diego Huttepain of Army in another semifinal match that will start at 9 a.m.
