Crimson Tide Four in the Fall
Four members of the Rice men's tennis team will open the 2018 tournament schedule for the Owls this weekend by competing in the Crimson Tide Four in the Fall tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Friday through Sunday.
Sophomores Mohamed Abdel-Aziz and Jacob Eskeland and freshmen Adam Oscislawski and Karol Paluch will take the courts against players from Alabama, Memphis, Miami, Oklahoma, Princeton, Tennessee and Tulane in singles and doubles action which will be divided into two flights (Crimson and Houndstooth)
"I'm very excited for the season to get started," Rice head coach Efe Ustundag said. "We've got a good group in place and the freshmen are quickly making the adjustment to playing college tennis."
This will mark the Owls second consecutive appearance at Four in the Fall and Ustundag said the experience in 2017 convinced him it was an ideal tournament to kick off 2018.
"We were able to get some matches last weekend in the wild card tournament for our Futures Event, but a college tournament is a totally different vibe. We'll get to play a lot of matches over three days, so this will give us a good idea to see where we are physically.
"There are a lot of good teams in in the tournament again this year. It was a solid competition last year and I expect the same thing this year," Ustundag said.
