Card-Childers Competes for USATF at Thorpe Cup

Fifth leading scorer for United States
KNOXVILLE, TN - Rice junior Charlie Card-Childers finished as the fifth-leading scorer (6889 points), 12th overall, for the United States Track & Field Team at the annual Thorpe Cup Saturday, hosted by the University of Tennessee.
Card-Childers was one of seven members on the USATF squad, which fell to Germany, 38,915 points to 37,902 points. USA's Steve Bastien took the individual honors for all Thorpe Cup competitors with 7980 points.
The Thorpe Cup is annual competition between the United States of America and Germany in the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. Seven men and seven women from each country comprise the competition, which is scored on an individual and team basis. Athletes receive a predetermined number of points based upon their performances in each of the events.
This past season Card-Childers earned C-USA All-Conference honors in the decathlon and placed ninth in the decathlon at the USATF Championships.
