
Filip Earns First Team All-American Honors

EUGENE, OR - Rice senior Scott Filip put the finishing touch on a stellar career by placing fifth in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, totaling 7803 points to earn USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors for the third time in his career.
Entering the day with 4278 points, Filip had a pair of ninth place finishes on Thursday in the 110m hurdles (15.17) and 1500m (4:37.35), respectively. Filip also finished 11th in the javelin (176-02), 15th in the discus (124-02) and 16th in the pole vault (14-05.25)
Kentucky's Tim Duckworth was the decathlon champion with 8336 points, followed by Karl Saluri (Georgia-8137 points), Johannes Erm (Georgia-8046 points) and Joe Delgado (Louisville-7852 points).
Between his outdoor and indoor career, Filip leaves Rice as a five-time All-American and a seven-time Conference USA champion.
