Three Owls to Compete at NCAA Championships

Filip, from Bloomingdale, Ill., automatically qualified for his third career NCAA Outdoor Championship appearance by recording 7876 points in the decathlon at the Texas Relays. He enters the meet seeded eighth. Last season, Filip placed fifth in the decathlon in Eugene to garner First Team All-American honors. This year Filip won his third career C-USA decathlon title, his seventh career league title.
Jackson, from Sulphur, La., will be running in heat one of three in Thursday semifinals of the 200m dash and is seeded 23rd overall. Jackson tied her own school record of 23.19 at the NCAA West Prelims, placing fifth in her heat and advanced by having one of the top three automatic qualifying times. She placed second in the 200m dash and was the 100m dash C-USA champion.
Fokam, a native of Katy, Texas, swept the C-USA Outdoor and Indoor triple jump and long jump titles. She is seeded 10th in the nation with a season-best jump of 13.43m (44-0.75) at the C-USA Championships. Fokam will compete on Saturday at 5:40 p.m. (CT) on ESPN3.

EUGENE, OR - Three members of the Rice Owls track & field program will compete at historic Hayward Field this week at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, beginning on Wednesday with senior Scott Filip in the decathlon. In addition, Hannah Jackson (200m) and Michelle Fokam (triple jump) will make their first career appearances as just sophomores.
