
Filip Earns Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod named the 14 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship on Wednesday, which included Rice track & field graduate Scott Filip as one of the honorees.
The conference annually awards the $4,000 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Filip recently was named the C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year for a second straight season after earning USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors in the outdoor decathlon and Second Team All-American honors in the indoor heptathlon. Filip claimed his seventh career C-USA title by winning the decathlon at the Outdoor Championships. The five-time All-American began his graduate education in global affairs last year after graduating from Rice with a 5.61 GPA in sports management.
This is the 10th year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before passing away in Novemeber 2008.
