
Filip Grabs Decathlon Lead at C-USA Championships

HOUSTON - Rice senior All-American Scott Filip and junior Charlie Card-Childers put together strong performances in the decathlon on day one of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, claiming first and third place, respectively, heading into Friday's final five events.
Filip collected 4200 points by winning the 100m dash and the 400m dash while finishing in the top three in all five events. The Bloomingdale, Ill. native ran a season-best 10.68 seconds to win the 100m, before placing second in the long jump with a leap of 7.43m (24-04.50).
Following a third place finish of 12.64m (41-05.75) in the shot put, Filip tied for second (1.98m/6-06.00) in the high jump to earn 785 points. He then capped off the afternoon with a stellar run of 47.79 seconds (919 points) to win the 400m dash.
Card-Childers, from Houston, sits in third place with 3814 points and is 263 points back of UTSA's Adrian Riley (4077 points). Card-Childers won the shot put with a PR of 13.46m (44-02.00) and the high jump (2.01m/6-07.00) while placing third in the long jump with a PR of 6.87m (22-06.50).
Rice Senior Colton Torrance amassed 3565 points and is in fourth place overall following a second place finish in the 400m (49.43) and a third place result in the 100m (11.09).
Day two of the decathlon will pick back up at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, beginning with 110m hurdles. Filip will be in search of his third career C-USA decathlon title and seventh overall (four heptathlons).
