Sarkar Win Highlights Road Finale
4/7/2018 12:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis
Sumit Sarkar picked up his first career win over a ranked opponent but 26th ranked Tulane swept the remaining matches to take a 6-1 win over Rice at City Park Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.
Sarkar shook off any disappointment over losing a tiebreaker in the first set to take a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (5) decision over Tulane Ewan Moore, who entered weekend action ranked 87th nationally. The win was Sarkar's fifth in his last seven decisions.
"Sumit played some great tennis down the stretch after the first set," Rice head coach Efe Ustundag said. "He did a great job of putting the tiebreak loss behind him. We saw a lot of good things on the courts today, but Tulane is a very good team and that shows in the final score."
The Owls will close out the 2018 dual schedule on April 15 when they host SMU in am 11 a.m. dual. They will look to defend their consecutive C-USA Championships the following weekend when Rice hosts the 2018 conference tournament from April 20-22.
