
Rutledge Earns C-USA Academic Honor

Redshirt sophomore Eric Rutledge, who has posted the most wins for an Owl at the number one singles spot since 2010 has been has been named to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team for men's and women's tennis along with Rice women's tennis team members Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang.
This is the second consecutive year the Owls have led the conference by placing two members on the women's team, while Rice and FAU share the most combined honorees with three each.
Rutledge carries a 3.68 GPA as a triple major in Sport Management, Managerial Studies and Economics along with a business minor in the classroom and leads the Owls with a 12-6 record in singles, including an 11-5 mark at the top of the lineup.
His 11 wins this year are the most for an Owl at the first singles spot since Bruno Rosa won 14 matches in 2010. He has also compiled a 7-6 record while playing No.1 singles, including a 7-5 record with Sumit Sarkar.
Rutledge and his Rice teammates will begin defense of their back-to-back Conference USA championships in familiar surroundings this Friday when the face Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the 2018 C-USA Championship at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
