A&M Tops Rice 13-4

HOUSTON -- No. 12 ranked Texas A&M used two big innings and a 13-hit attack in a 13-4 win at Rice Tuesday evening at Reckling Park.
Texas A&M hit solo home runs in the top of the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Aggies then exploded for six runs on four hits, two Rice errors, a walk and a wild pitch to stretch the margin to 8-0 in the fourth.
Rice continued to fight and cut the lead to 8-4 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bradley Gneiting, Ryan Chandler, Trei Cruz and Braden Comeaux started the frame with consecutive base hits. Chase Sarchet's two-out, bases-loaded, single brought the Blue & Gray halfway back.
A&M answered with a four-run seventh on only three hits, and two of the four runs were unearned after Rice fielding errors. The Aggies added a final run in the ninth for a 13-4 final.
The Owls finished the night with eight different players combining for double-digit hits. Gneiting extended his hitting streak to a career-best six games. Rice is now 9-14 on the season. Texas A&M improved to 18-4 overall.
Rice next continues the current homestand and returns to Conference USA league play this weekend (March 23-25). Owls host Western Kentucky in a three-game series. Friday's opening game against the Hilltoppers is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. Saturday's contest starts at 2 pm. Sunday's series finale is slated to begin at 1 pm at Reckling Park.
