Nine Owls Honored by C-USA

HOUSTON — Jack Fox leads a group of nine Rice football players who were honored by Conference USA head coaches as members of the 2018 C-USA All-Conference football team.
Fox was named to the first team while Zach Abercrumbia, Aaron Cephus, Anthony Ekpe, Sam Pierce, Haden Tobola, Austin Trammell, Austin Walter and Roe Wilkins were named Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Fox, a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, led Conference USA in punting for the second straight year and was eighth in the country, averaging 45.5 yards per punt while leading the nation with a school record 3,636 punting yards. He led the league with 26 punts of at least 50 yards and 31 punts inside the 20-yard line. At North Texas, he averaged 47.3 yards per punt over seven punts, including a career-best 76-yarder, which is the eighth longest in the country this year. He placed five of them inside the 20 and one inside the 10. His performance at North Texas earned him the Ray Guy Punter of the Week Award.
Austin Walter earned honorable mention honors at both running back and kick returner. He led the team with 564 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns as well as 491 kick return yards. In addition, he was second on the team with 44 catches for 525 yards.
Abercrumbia was third on the team with 55 tackles. He had 4.5 tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries and recovered two fumbles.
Trammell led the team with 62 receptions, which is seventh-most in school history, for 632 yards while catching three touchdowns. Cephus caught 40 passes for 565 yards for a team-leading five touchdowns.
Pierce started all 13 games on the offensive line. Ekpe had 35 tackles while leading the team with 6.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Wilkins was fourth on the team with 50 tackles and third with 4.5 tackles for loss.
Tobola connected on 10-of-11 field goals and set the school season record for field goal percentage, connecting on 90.9%. His 51-yard field goal at LSU was the first 50-yard field goal since Chris Boswell in 2013.
