Owls to Make Home Debut vs. Texas Southern
The Owls will make their long-awaited (14 days) home debut on Tuesday when they host crosstown foe Texas Southern in the 2018-19 home opener from Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice leads the all-time series vs. the Lady Tigers and the two teams will be meeting for the first time since the Owls defeated TSU 52-49 on the road on Dec. 11, 2016.
Last Time Out
Four players scored in double-digits, and the team shot a combined 58 percent from the floor, as Rice Owls women's basketball team posted a convincing 79-65 road victory Saturday afternoon at Little Rock. Rice took the lead midway through the first quarter and stayed in front more than 34 of the game's 40 minutes. The Blue & Gray led by as many as 22 in the fourth period, and finished the game out-rebounding the Trojans 31-17 on the defensive boards. Rice was led in scoring guard Erica Ogwumike, who poured in 21 points and tied her career-high with 19 rebounds.
Texas Southern Scouting Report
The Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the season last time out with an 83-54 victory over Paul Quinn. Marquia Turner (21 points) and Niya Mitchell (18 points) led the team in scoring. The Lady Tigers were picked to finish second in the SWAC.
