Men’s Hoops Hosts St. Thomas in Lone Exhibition

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
HOUSTON — Rice will play its first game of the 2018-19 campaign when it welcomes crosstown foe St. Thomas to Tudor Fieldhouse this Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. CT. It will be the lone exhibition game of the year for the Owls.
Scouting Rice
• Rice returns five letterwinners and two starters from last year's squad.
• Guard Ako Adams is the team's leading returning scorer, averaging 10.5 points last year, which was second on the squad. He also led the team in assists with 3.2 while pulling down 2.6 rebounds.
• Forward Robert Martin is the team's returning rebounder, grabbing 3.0 boards per game last year.
• The Owls have a mix of upper and underclassmen on the roster. Of the 13 Owls, seven are either graduates, seniors or juniors. The underclassmen all will be suiting up for Rice for the first time, including five freshmen and redshirt sophomore Josh Parrish, who sat out last year after transferring from TCU.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his second season leading the Rice men's basketball program.
Scouting St. Thomas
• St. Thomas enters tonight's game with a 1-2 record after falling on Tuesday at Wayland Baptist, 76-66.
• The Celts finished 16-12 record and 8-10 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
• UST returns five players with All-Conference honors in guards Kennard Robinson and Paris Marquez and forwards Orowo Eleyae, Nathan Thormaehlen and Paul Taulton.
• St. Thomas is placing five players in double-figures, led by Eleyae with 14.3 points. Robinson is scoring 14.0 and Michael Alfred and Thormaehlen are each scoring 13.3. Taulton is adding 11.0.
• Taulton leads the Celts 4.3 rebounds. Robinson is adding a team-high 4.3 assists and 4.0 steals.
• Head coach Anthony Medina is in his fourth season at the helm of the St. Thomas men's basketball program where he owns a 40-47 (.460) record.

• Rice and St. Thomas have met eight times, all in the regular season.
• Rice holds a 7-1 record in the series and has won the last five meetings.
• The previous eight meetings have all been held at Tudor Fieldhouse.
