After tying the game early in the second half, Rice allowed 21 points in a four-minute span as the Owls fell at North Texas, 41-17, Saturday afternoon.
The Story
Rice took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards to take an early 7-0. North Texas scored 17 straight points, but Haden Tobola's 27-yard field goal at the end of the half pulled the Owls within 17-10. Rice started the second half by recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff. Five plays later, Wiley Green found Aaron Cephus for a three-yard touchdown to tie the game at 17. However, the Mean Green closed the game scoring 24 unanswered points.
Starting off Strong
For the second straight game, Rice went 75 yards on its opening drive, this time in 11 plays and culminating in a touchdown. It was the second straight game and the third time this year it scored on its opening possession. It is also the first time it scored on its opening possession in back-to-back games since doing so against UTSA and Prairie View A&M in 2016.
