Owls Grab Pair of Invite Titles on Day Two

The Rice women's tennis team captured two of three doubles titles and advanced a pair of players to singles championships matches to highlight action on the second day of the 2017 Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday.
Wendy Zhang and Savannah Durkin took the Flight 2 Doubles title, joining teammates Priya Niezgoda and Sofie Moenster, who swept to the Flight 3 crown. Rice's third doubles entry, Lindsey Hodge and Michaela Haet, advance to the title match in Flight 1 before falling to USF's Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric.
Zhang will look to add a second title in the season's first weekend of action after advancing to the Flight 2 Singles championship match, shaking off a first set loss to down Luca Fabian of Alabama, 3-6/6-0/6-2. Freshman Anna Bowtell also advance to a title match on Sunday in similar fashion, dropping the first set to Kim Gintrand of Alabama before advancing, 5-7/6-3/6-3.
Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center
