The Rice women's tennis team opened it's 2017 fall campaign by capturing five of six singles matches in addition to all three doubles matches in the first round of action at the Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday.
The Owls survived a pair of tiebreakers in doubles to advance all three teams to Saturday's second round. In singles, Anna Botwell, Priya Niezgoda and Wendy Zhang picked up straight set wins in singles, while Lindsey Hodge and Sofie Moenster ground out three set wins, with Moenster needing a third set tiebreaker to down Texas State's Julia Navajo, 6-3/3-6/7-6(9)
Play resumes at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the first of two rounds of doubles, in addition to a single round of singles. Play concludes on Sunday with the final round of singles.
