Rice freshman Michaela Haet started fast, but could not hold off a rally by Stanford's Emma Higuchi to fall in three sets and close out the Owls' action in the 2017 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California on Wednesday.
Haet took the first set from the 44th ranked Higuchi, 6-0, but the Cardinal sophomore who was 22-1 in dual competition last year, rallied to take the final two sets 6-4, 6-2.
Haet and her Rice teammates will be back in action in nine days when they compete in the ITA/Texas Regional, hosted by TCU from October 13-17.
