Cartwright Named C-USA Female Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Rice redshirt sophomore Abigail Cartwright was selected the Conference USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Cartwright, from Dallas, helped guide the Owls to a team victory in their season-opening Rice Invitational 4k meet this past weekend by winning the 119-athlete field in a time of 14:17.6 (5:31.5 mile average).
The individual victory was Cartwright second of her career and she beat her next closest opponent by nearly four seconds. Cartwright was a C-USA Second Team All-Conference finisher last season.
Cartwright and the Owls, who are ranked third in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings, will next compete on Sept. 24 at the Texas A&M Invite.
