Karakolis Named to CoSIDA All-Academic Team

HOUSTON - Rice senior thrower Evan Karakolis was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District 7 team for a third consecutive season, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Karakolis, from Scarborough, Ontario, is a Mechanical Engineering major with a 4.13 GPA and has now been named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District team in three consecutive years.
Karakolis was selected the C-USA Athlete of the Week on April 26 after he broke his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 79.30m (260'2") to win at the Kansas Relays. That mark has held up as the No. 3 throw in the country this season.
The senior is coming off a fourth place finish at the C-USA Championships with a throw of 71.65m (235'1"). Karakolis will be throwing the javelin at the NCAA West Prelims in Lawrence, Kansas tomorrow at 12 p.m.
