Karakolis Selected C-USA Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Rice senior thrower Evan Karakolis has been selected the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week following his record-breaking performance at the Kansas Relays, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The All-American from Scarborough, Ontario obliterated his previous school record (72.76m) in the javelin with a lifetime best throw of 79.30m (260'2") to win at the Kansas Relays last Saturday. In the process, Karakolis moved to No. 3 in the nation with his historic throw, tops among C-USA competitors this season, and qualified for the NCAA's.
Karakolis also posted throws of 73.69m and 73.78m, each of which surpassed his previous Rice record.
This is Karakolis' second career C-USA Athlete of the Week award. The Owls are just a little under three weeks away from the C-USA Championships, which will take place May 12-15 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
