IRVING - Rice senior Katie Jensen and redshirt sophomore Abigail Cartwright were each named to the 2016 Conference USA In-Touch Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
A native of The Woodlands, Jensen earned her third consecutive C-USA Cross Country All-Academic Team selection with a 3.79 GPA in chemical engineering. The senior posted three top-five finishes this season while adding a sixth-place finish at the C-USA Championships, helping secure a conference title for the Owls and earning First-Team All-Conference honors in the process. This award is Jensen's fourth career C-USA all-academic award, having also previously earned a C-USA track and field award. She's also a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree.
Cartwright, from Dallas, boasts a 3.86 GPA in civil engineering and earned C-USA Second-Team honors with a 12th place finish at the C-USA Championships. Cartwright was twice named the C-USA Female Athlete of the Week this season and won each of the Rice Invitational and Texas A&M Invite.
The women's honorary list was selected by the league's sports information directors. The all-academic team consists of six student-athletes that have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team.
Jensen and Cartwright are both competing Friday morning at the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.
