
Owl Open Invite in Impressive Fashion

The Rice men's tennis team opened their 2015 Fall Invitational in impressive fashion, capturing seven of eight doubles matches and five of seven singles matches played at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the Rice campus.
Juniors David Warren and Henrick Munch and freshman Dongwei Peng and Jake Hansen completed an unbeaten days, winning their opening round matchs in singles while picking up a pair of wins in doubles.
Warren downed Felix Fan of Portland, 6-3, 6-3 in singles and then combined with Adam Gustafsson to post consecutive wins in doubles. Munch raced past Tucker Brown of Incarnate Word 6-1, 6-2 while Peng downed Prairie View's Ulrick Boyogueno 6-1, 6-1 before the duo teamed up for a pair of wins in B Flight doubles.
Jake Hansen opened his collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Army West Point's Caison Best before teaming with fellow freshman Emanuel Llamas for a pair of doubles wins.
Sophomore Jamie Malik shook off a first set loss to bounce back and defeat Tito Moreiras of UTSA 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. He and Tommy Bennett split a pair of doubles matches.
Bennet, who was making his return to action after redshirting last season while recovering from an injury, dropped his opening singles match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to Lamar's Nikita Lis. Lllamas fell to Texas' Tyler Schick 6-2, 6-3
Second-day play begins at 9 am on Saturday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
