AUSTIN, Texas -- Rice sophomore decathlete Scott Filip finished 21st in the long jump at Thursday's NCAA West Prelims at the University of Texas.
Filip improved upon his No. 24 seeding by jumping 7.44m (24-05.00) on his second attempt. The Bloomingdale, Ill. native has already secured a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 10-13 in Oregon, with his 7632 points (ranked ninth nationally).
In addition to Filip, Rice freshman jumper Charlie Card-Childers competed at Thursday's NCAA West Prelims but no heighted his three attempts in the high jump.
