Karakolis Highlights Men's Performance at Duckett Twilight

Rice junior Evan Karakolis won his third javelin competition of the outdoor season, unleashing his fourth 70-plus meter throw (72.11m, 236-07) at Saturday's 12th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet.
Karakolis' best throw came on his final attempt and the All-American earned his fifth career victory.
Other top three performances by the Owls came from hurdler Filip Drozdowski and distance runner Aneesh Sampath. Drozdowski, a sophomore, placed third overall (second collegiately) in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.22. Sampath, a junior finished second in the 5000m finishing in a time of 15:00.38.
The Owls had eight other athletes finish in the top six, including a fourth and fifth place finish from Griffin Lee (9:19.88) and Marco Ruiz (9:23.60) in the 3000m steeplechase, respectively.
Freshman David Diaz won his heat in the 800m with a Rice season-best time of 1:52.53 while William Roberts also set a season-best time of 3:52.53 in the 1500m.
Rice will now have one more meet before the C-USA Outdoor Championships (May 14-17) when they travel to the Oxy Invitational on May 9 in Los Angeles, Calif.
