FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Rice sophomore Scott Filip wrapped up day two of the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday by finishing 14th overall, earning USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American honors to close out a sensational indoor campaign.
Filip entered competition Saturday with 3231 points and finished with 4794 points after a personal best time of 2:45.75 (8th-811 points) in the 1000m race and a 13th place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.97-752 points). In between the two events Filip no heighted in the pole vault after passing up to 4.35m.
"I think it's an understatement to say we were hoping for a better day," Rice men's track and field head coach Jon Warren said. "Even so, Scott still did garner All-American honors and he finished up with his best-ever performance in the 1000. I would say this was a pretty great indoor year for Scott and we move forward now to the outdoor season."
The Bloomingdale, Ill. Native joined Chris Pillow (Pole Vault, First-Team All-American) and Ben Pressley (Long Jump, Second-Team All-American) as Owls who earned All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Arkansas this weekend.
During the indoor season Filip broke the school and conference record in the heptathlon and won a C-USA Indoor title with 5785 points in Birmingham.
