Owls Advance Three To Round of 16

Tommy Bennett, Adam Gustafsson and Jake Hansen advanced to the Round of 16 in the rain-hampered ITA/Texas Regional Championships in Houston on Sunday.
As rains soaked the Houston area for the second consecutive day, competition was moved to three indoor facilities in the Houston area with opening matches beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Bennett , who is seeded 16th, advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Tito Moreiras of UTSA and will meet third seed Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M on Monday for a berth in the semifinals. Gustafsson downed 14th seed George Goldhoff of Texas, 7-5, 6-3 to move into match with seventh seed Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech. Hansen dropped Baylor's Jimmy Bendeck 6-2, 6-2 and will now face third seeded Guillermo Nunez of TCU.
Rice's two other singles entries dropped three-set matches on Sunday. Sophomore Jamie Malik extended fifth seed AJ Catanzariti of Texas A&M to three sets before falling 5-7, 7-6 (11),6-1 while junior David Warren and Alex Sendegeya of Texas Tech needed a tiebreak in the third set to decide their match, with the eighth seeded Sendegeya surviving, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1)
In doubles, third seeds Warren and Gustafsson advanced to the Round of 32 with a walkover and will face16th seeds Moreiras and Diogo Casa on Monday.
Action is schedule to resume on Monday, with final determination of locations to be announced on Monday.
