Gustafsson Falls in Quarters

Adam Gustafsson saw his run in the ITA/Texas Regional Singles Champinship end with a straight set loss to fouth seed Arthur Rinderknech of Texas A&M to close out action for Rice in action at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston on Monday. Rinderknech advanced to Tuesday's semifinals with a 6-4, 6-3
Gustafsson earned a berth in the quarters by grinding out a three set upset of seventh seed Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech. The two traded tiebreak wins in the opening set before Gustafsson emerged with a win in the deciding final set, 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 6-2.
Gustafsson's Rice teammates extended two of the tourneys top three seeds to three sets before bowing out in the Round of 16.
Freshman Jake Hansen traded sets with second seed Guillermo Nunez of TCU before falling 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Tommy Bennett extended third seed Shane Vinsant to three sets before falling 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles, third seeds David Warren fell to Tito Moreiras and Diogo Casa of UTSA, 8-6.
Final action will begin onTuesday at 10 a.m. with the doubles semifinals, with the finals following immediately after. Singles semifinals will not begin before 11 a.m. and the singles finalst not before 3 p.m.
