Karakolis Named Academic All-District 7

Rice sophomore thrower Evan Karakolis was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection, the organization announced on Thursday.
Karakolis, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, holds a 4.02 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. The thrower broke his previous school record in the javelin with a throw of 70.80m at the Virginia Challenge, earning the top mark in C-USA this season. Karakolis then proceeded to win his first career C-USA outdoor title the following week with a victory on his final throw of the competition. He also placed second at both the J Fred Duckett Twilight and UTEP Invitational.
Karakolis was to compete Thursday on day one of the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayeteville, Arkansas.
Balloting for the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team opens on June 3.
