
Doop, Karakolis Named Academic All-C-USA

IRVING, Texas - Rice track and field athletes Wyatt Doop and Evan Karakolis were both named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the first time in their respective collegiate careers, the league announced on Wednesday.
Doop has a 3.87 GPA while majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Doop is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selectee and a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient. A native of Wayzata, Minnesota, Doop won the 3000 steeplechase at both the SFA Skecher's Carl Knight Invitational (9:12.16) and the Victor Lopez Classic (9:17.09). The senior is also a four-time member of the Rice University's President's Honor Roll and was previously named the Rice University Student Athlete of the Year.
Karakolis, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, is a sophomore with a 4.02 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. The thrower broke his previous school record in the javelin with a throw of 70.80m at the Virginia Challenge, earning the top mark in C-USA this season. Karakolis then proceeded to win his first career C-USA outdoor title the following week with a victory on his final throw of the competition. He also placed second at both the J Fred Duckett Twilight and UTEP Invitational.
Karakolis will compete this Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas at 5:30 p.m.
