EL PASO, Texas - Junior vaulter Chris Pillow won his first event of the outdoor season by tying his career-best mark of 5.50m (18-0.5) at the UTEP Invite Saturday afternoon. The Mechanicsville, Virginia native highlighted the afternoon for the Owls by recording the third-best mark in the nation this season, tying the mark he established earlier this year at the Texas Relays.
The Owls also got a couple of second places finish from both Evan Karakolis and Filip Drozdowski, respectively. Karakolis recorded a distance of 67.49m in the javelin while Drozdowski ran a 14.14 in the 110m hurdles.
Freshman Scott Filip competed in four events (discus, long jump, high jump, 200m dash) and set a PR in the long jump (7.22m).
Rice will split their squad next weekend between both the Mt. Sac Relays and the Kansas Invite.
