HOUSTON, Texas - Rice University men's basketball returns home from its three-game trip to Anchorage and the GCI Great Alaska Shootout to host Houston Baptist in the first of three-straight home games to open December.
A number of outstanding individual performances were not quite enough for the Owls at the Thanksgiving weekend tournament. Playing on three-straight days, the Owls battled to a pair of tight contests early and fell to the host team in the finale.
The Owls are 1-1 at home this season with a win over Prairie View A&M and a narrow setback against William & Mary.
Scouting the Huskies
Houston Baptist enters the contest with a pair of home wins and a pair of road setbacks (at Northwestern and UT Arlington).
HBU's two home wins have come by an average of 40.0 points against Hillsdale and Dallas Christian.
Anthony Odunsi leads the team with 12.3 points in three games played while Colter Lasher also scores in double figures with 11.8 points per game.
Series History
Rice is 6-0 at home against the Huskies dating back to the first meeting in 1973. Four of the wins have come by eight or fewer points.
Last season's 73-71 setback at Houston Baptist is the lone blemish for the Owls in the eight-game series.
Junior Max Guercy averages 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games against HBU.
Following Wednesday's game, the Owls host St. Edward's on Saturday, Dec. 6 in the last game before final exams.
