Rice and North Texas, who were separated by a single point in the preseason C-USA coaches poll face off for the fifth time in history, the third time at Rice Stadium and the first game here as members of the same conference. In voting released in July, North Texas was the choice of the coaches to unseat the Owls in the West Division, but only by one point (66-65). UTSA was right behind in third while current West leader, Louisiana Tech was fourth with 38 points.
