Senior Srikar Alla and junior Adam Gustafsson advanced to the round of 32 with wins to highlight action for the Rice men's tennis team at the 2014 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station on Saturday.

Alla dropped Abilene Christian's Nicholas Agritelley, 7-6, 6-3 to advance to a matchup against Baylor's Felipe Rios on Sunday.

Gustafsson opened action with a 6-1. 7-5 win over Texas-Arlington's Daniel Armengel. He will face off against the tourney's top seed, Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas on Sunday for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Freshman Jamie Malik opened play on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Texas Tech's Evan Nix, but fell to 15th seed Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M in the Round of 64, 6-3, 6-1
