Clayton Chaney ranks 17th in the NCAA Championship Decathlon after one day and five events in the decathlon. He has compiled 3,847 points in the event so far, with five events remaining.
Chaney earned 836 points from the 100 m dash, running 11.11 s, then jumped 23 feet 3¼ inches in the long jump to rank 14th after two events.
He threw the shot put 41 feet, 6.5 inches for 647 points, then finished the day with a high jump of 6 feet, 4 inches and a 400 m time of 50.57 for 789 points.
The decathlon continues at 1 p.m. CT/11 a.m. PT on Thursday.
