Chaney Leads Shirley Crowe Multi Events After One Day

Clayton Chaney leads the Shirley Crowe Decathlon after one day, leading Wichita State's Austin Bahner by 128 points. Chris Sanders ranks fourth with with a score of 3638.
"Scoring 4,000 points on the first day is quite an accomplishment, and I hope Clayton can keep up his steady stream of solid performances," said Rice Head Coach Jon Warren. "Chris Sanders also had a stellar day, and I hope he is on the road to break the 7,000 point barrier on Wednesday."
Chaney's first day total of 4,062 is his highest-ever, and led by first-place performances in the high jump (1.99 m) and shot put (13.91 m).
Sanders is 71 points behind Wichita State's Toby Boese for third place in the competition. Sanders earned 767 of his points with a high jump of 1.96, coming in second place behind Chaney in that event.
The Shirley Crowe Multi Events continue Wednesday at Rice Track/Soccer Stadium.
