Zinchenko Places Second in the Shot Put

Houston - The Rice men's and women's track and field squads competed Saturday at the Howie Ryan All-Comers Meet hosted by the University of Houston at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
In the shot put, Alex Zinchenko led the Owls' efforts with a mark 16.96m/55-7.75 to finish second. That is Zinchenko's best mark of the 2011 indoor season. Placing ninth was Will Meyers at 14.48m/47-6.25.
In the 800m, Dan Sloat ran a season-best time of 1:56.21 to place fourth. Sammy Abuhamra ran 4:22.61 in the mile for a season-best time in placing ninth.
Ikechi Nnamani placed 10th in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.99m/6-6.25. Nick Williams finished ninth in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 13.35m/43-9.75.
