Rice Baseball Tabbed For Seven Televised Games This Season

HOUSTON - The Rice baseball team, ranked as high as 14th in the nation in one preseason poll, is slated to have seven of its regular season games televised, Conference USA and Rice Athletics Director Rick Greenspan announced on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
With a winning tradition and a fan-and-TV-friendly Reckling Park as its home stadium, the Owls are again a favorite for live televised broadcasts. CBS Sports Network (formerly CBS College Sports - CBSC), a national leader in televising a host of collegiate sporting events, will nationally televise Rice's May 19 road game against Southern Miss. The contest is a rematch of the same two teams that a year ago met in the Conference USA Championship Final.
Six games are regional telecasts on Comcast Sports Southwest (CSS) that have potential for wider distribution. Three of the CSS games will be played at Reckling Park. All five games of the Owls' annual season-long series against crosstown rival Houston will be broadcast on CSS. Rice's April 12 home game against longtime foe Texas A&M is now a CSS game.
As in years past, a live audio feed of every Rice baseball game will be available on the Internet at RiceOwls.com. Broadcasters J.P. Heath and David Brady will once again call the Rice games on the web. For the non-televised games at Reckling Park, fans can watch (and listen) to Rice baseball on the web via OwlVision All-Access. OwlVision All-Access matches the live audio feed with a video feed to create a television-like broadcast on the Internet. This subscription service is available to fans all over the world through RiceOwls.com.
The challenging 2011 college baseball season is only a few days away. The Owls officially open the schedule with a three-game home series against nationally-ranked Stanford this Friday (Feb. 18) through Sunday (Feb. 20).
In 2010 the Rice baseball team went 40-23 and advanced to an NCAA Regional for a 16th-straight year. The Owls have won at least 40 games in each of the last 16 seasons and have won or shared 15-consecutive conference championships (including regular season and/or conference tournament titles).
Season ticket plans for Rice's 32-game home baseball schedule are now on sale through the Rice Athletic Ticket Office and online at RiceOwls.com. Packages start as low as $125 for adult general admission tickets, while reserved seat options begin as low as $190.
