Terre Haute, Ind. - The Rice women's cross country team placed 13th in the 6K White Race at the always difficult and prestigious 2010 Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State University and ran on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
"I am a little disappointed with our overall team performance today," commented Owl head coach Jim Bevan. "I was pleased though with our younger runners. I thought Halsey Fowler, Marie Thompson, and Meredith Gamble ran really well. We were not quite 100 percent healthy as Nicole Mericle was under the weather, but we were able to defeat some good teams today such as Georgia, Kansas, and Florida."
Senior Britany Williams was first across the finish line for Rice. Williams was 56th with a time of 21:25.4, while Halsey Fowler placed 58th (21:26.1). Saturday's performance was Rice's fourth-best finish at the Pre-National Invitational.
