Owls Fall in Singles Play at HEB Baylor Invitational

Rice University's Isamu Tachibana and Oscar Podlewski both dropped decisions in the Round of 16 of the Singles A draw at the HEB Baylor Invitational which continued Saturday in Waco.
Tachibana suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Baylor's Rux Jordan while Podlewski retired due to an injury in his match on Saturday. Podlewski posted a 7-6 win in the first set and was tied 4-4 when he retired.
The Owls also lost two matches in the Round of 16 of the Singles B draw. Andy Wang lost to Louisiana-Lafayette's Carlin Murray 6-3, 7-6. After beating UTSA's Max Stratmann 6-2, 6-2, Rice's Christian Saravia lost a three-set match to Texas A&M's Kayvon Karimi 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In the Round of 16 of the Doubles A draw, Saravia and Michael Nusslein droped a 9-8(3) decision to Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar and Andre Stabile.
Rice's doubles teams of Sam Garfort and Dennis Polyakov as well as Jonathon Chang and Podlewsi both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Doubles B draw. Garforth and Polyakov lost a 9-8(3) decision to Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas of New Mexico State. Chang and Podleski dropped an 8-2 decision to Oklahoma State's Anton Bobytskyi and Eric West.
