Hänle Shares C-USA Newcomer Award

Rice sophomore Rebakka Hänle was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Co-Newcomer of the year in a vote of the 12 head women's tennis coach. The honor was one of several specialty awards that were announced on Thursday by the conference office.

She shared the 2009 honor with UCF junior Katie Orletsky..

Hänle joined the Owls' lineup in late February and posted a 10-1 record, winning her last nine matches of the year. Eight of her 10 wins in singles came in straight sets and late in the year she moved into the No. 2 singles spot and went 7-0. She was named to the All Conference USA second team earlier in the week.

She is the first Owl to capture one of Conference USA's specialty awards since Julie Chao was named the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2007.
