Owls Place Three on All-CUSA Women's Tennis Team

Julie Chao, Rebekka Hänle and Ana Guzman are among 22 players who have been named to the 2009 All-Conference USA women's tennis teams, as announced on Wednesday by the conference office. The teams were selected by the conference's 12 head coaches.
Chao was selected to the C-USA first team for the third consecutive year. The junior from San Diego, California, played at the No. 1 singles spot for the Owls all season. He top match of the year was a three-set win over then #35 Ohio State's Kirsten Flower, wining a second-set, tie-breaker 8-6, then capturing third 12-10. She was also a member of the C-USA All Academic squad for the second consecutive season.
Hänle, who was named to the second team, joined the playing lineup in late February and posted a 10-1 record, winning her last nine matches of the year. Eight of her 10 wins in singles came in straight sets. She moved into the No. 2 singles spot for the last eight matches and was 7-0 with one match unfinished
Guzman earned a spot on the third team after tying for second on the team with 13 wins (13-9). She opened the year at the No. 2 spot (8-7) before moving down to No. 3 for the final eight matches (5-2, one unfinished). She also combined with Julie Chao to post a 14-9 record at No. 1 doubles.
League champion SMU led the all-league teams with four singles selections, three on the first team, and two doubles team selections. Runner-up Tulsa and Rice followed with three singles selections each, while Marshall had two singles honors. Ten of the 12 women's tennis programs were represented on 2009 teams
