Rice junior Bruno Rosa has been named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending March 22.
Rosa, who is ranked 46th in the nation in singles, was honored after posting an unbeaten week for the Owls, winning each of his matches in straight sets. He opened the week with a straight-set win over 45th-ranked Ed Corrie of Texas and then went on to win both of his completed matches as the Owls captured the team title in the 51st annual Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invitational over the weekend. Rosa's third match of the weekend was not completed as the Owls clinched the match before his was completed. He has won six consecutive matches, all in straight sets.
This is the fifth time in his career that Rosa has been honored by the league with its weekly honor. It is the fourth time this season that an Owl has earned the honor. Christoph Müller has been honored twice this year for his play in singles, and was honored once for his work in doubles with teammate Tobias Scheil.
Thanks to their sweep through the Rice Invitational, the Owls have jumped up three spots to No. 33 in the latest Campbell's ITA College Rankings. They will be back on the Jake Hess Tennis Court on Friday at 1 p.m. to take on 18th-ranked Pepperdine.
