
Owls Play at Tulane & UTEP

The Rice Owls volleyball team (16-8, 8-5) plays its two last Conference USA road matches this weekend. Rice plays at Tulane (15-7, 10-3) on Fri., Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in Fogelman Arena. The Owls then play at UTEP (10-16, 3-10) at 2 p.m. (CST) on Sunday.
Previously this year in Tudor Fieldhouse, Rice defeated UTEP 3-0, while losing to Tulane 3-0. Rice is currently riding a two-match winning streak after defeating East Carolina and Marshall last weekend by 3-0 margins.
The Owls have four players averaging 2.00+ kills per set. Leading the way is sophomore outside hitter Ashleigh McCord at 3.86 kps and senior Natalie Bogan follows at 3.23. Jennifer McClean is averaging 2.99 kills per set and Jessie Boulavsky is at 2.36. Bogan leads the team in hitting percentage at .340, while Boulavsky is next at .292. Freshman Nancy Cole sports a .277 attack percentage.
Owl setter junior Meredith Schamun leads the team and C-USA with a 11.98 assists per set average. Also, junior Tracey Lam is first in the league with a 5.57 digs per set average.
After this weekend's action, the Owls will honor it senior volleyball players on Thur., Nov. 12 prior to the 7 p.m. match with the University of Houston.
Starting Nov. 20, Rice will serve as host to the 2009 Conference USA Volleyball Championship. The three-day event will be hosted inside Tudor Fieldhouse and will feature the league's top eight teams. An All-Session pass, which includes seven matches, is $15 for adults and $10 for youth.
Single session ticket prices are $8 for adults and $4 for youth and groups. FREE admission to all C-USA members with a valid university ID.
