Round of 16 Next for Rice Women's Tennis

WACO - Rice University's Rebekka Hanle, Ana Guzman and Jessica Jackson all advanced to the Round of 16 at the Baylor HEB Women's Invite on Friday. All three players will play matches at 9:45 a.m. Saturday and look to advance to the quarterfinal round later in the day.
Hanle defeated Mississippi's Connor Vogel 7-6 (5), 6-1 and will play Texas A&M's Sheri Olivier Saturday. Guzman defeated North Texas' Paula Dinuta 6-3, 6-0 to advance to play the Aggies' Morgan Frank, the tournament's No. 4 seed. Jackson came back from a first-set loss to beat North Texas' Catalina Cruz 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. She will face Armstrong Atlantic State's Sona Novakova Saturday morning.
Also in early-round action Friday, Julie Chao suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Texas A&M's Lauren Santocroce. In the consolation bracket, Chao beat Ole Miss' Gabriela Rangel 6-2, 7-5. She will play North Texas' Shannon MacKenzie on Saturday.
The Owls also had two doubles teams competing at the Baylor HEB Women's Invite.
Chao and Jackson lost to North Texas' Amy Joubert and Irina Parachiv 8-4. Hanle and Guzman lost to Armstrong Atlantic State's Gabriella Kovacs and Sona Novakova 8-6 on Friday.
