Hanle to Semifinals at Baylor HEB Invite

WACO - Rebekka Hanle defeated Rice University teammate Ana Guzman 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the Baylor HEB Women's Invite set to be played Sunday morning.
Hanle and Guzman were two of three Rice players to advance to the tournament's Round of 16. The pair met in the tournament's quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Hanle defeated Texas A&M's Shyeri Olivier 6-0, 6-3 to get to the quarterfinals. Guzman won by default against Texas A&M's Morgan Frank, the tournament's No. 4 seed. Guzman lost the first set 7-6 (6) but had a 5-3 lead in the second set when the match was called.
With Hanle's win in the quarterfinals, she will take on the tournament's No. 2 seed, Baylor's Csilla Borsanyi Sunday morning in the semifinals.
Also in the singles Round of 16, Rice's Jessica Jackson lost her match to Nov. 4 seed Sona Novakova of Armstrong Atlantic State 6-0, 6-4.
In the consolation bracket, Julie Chao beat North Texas' Shannon MacKenzi 6-1, 6-0 then beat Texas A&M's Janelle Chutbertson 6-4, 6-2. Chao returns to the courts Sunday morning to face Martina Beckmann of Armstrong Atlantic State.
Armstrong Atlantic State is the NCAA Division II defending national champions. The university is located in Savannah, Ga.
