Owls Wrap Up Play at ITA Texas Regional

WACO - Rice University's Julie Chao, Rebekka Hanle and Jessica Jackson all advanced to the Round of 16 before bowing out at the ITA Texas Regional on Sunday. All three players won Round of 32 matches earlier in the day on Sunday.
Chao defeated TCU's Megan Anderson 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) before losing to Baylor's Leenka Broosova 6-2, 6-3. Hanley defeated SMU's Sofie Quist 6-0, 6-1 before dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Texas' Aerial Ellis. Jackson posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Texas State's Andrea Giraldo before losing to Texas' Amanda Craddock 6-1, 4-6, 4-6.
Rice had a total of six players advance to the Round of 32 in the singles main draw.
Ana Guzman lost a 7-6 (5), 0-6, 2-6 decision to Baylor's Taylor Ormond. Rebecca Lin lost a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic. Lin came back to beat Baylor's Karolina Filipiak 6-1, 6-3 in consolation play. Also in the Round of 32, Shiva-Shankar dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to SMU's Marta Lesniak
Also in consolation play, Guzman was beating Texas A&M's Sheri Olivier 6-4, 2-3 before having to default for an injury.
